Nishida Memorial Museum
Nishida Memorial Museum is located to the west of Fukushima City on the road to Tsuchiyu Onsen, in St. Anna’s Garden. Situated at the base of the magnificent Azuma mountain range, you can look down across a spectacular view of Fukushima City. The memorial museum which features a vast collection of traditional kokosehi is named after Minekichi Nishida who had a great love for kokeshi and the Tohoku region. The museum’s collection contains 3,500 different works and includes a total of around 10,000 kokeshi. The museum usually has around 1,300 kokeshi on display in 3 different exhibitions with themes including the history of kokeshi, traditional local kokeshi, and a collection of valuable pre-war kokeshi.
