Onuma, Menuma, Nidanuma Ponds
Located close to Tsuchiyu Onsen, the 3 ponds of Onuma, Menuma, and Nidanuma are a 10-minute drive (1-hour walk) through nature-filled country-side. Nidanuma is a marsh that is home to around 100,000 ‘mizubasho’ plants which produce a mass of white flowers in spring that bring the marshy surrounds to life. Menuma is surrounded by Azaleas that flower in May. The bright pink flowers and the green of the new spring foliage reflect off the pond’s surface to create eye-catching burst of colors. There are a range of leisurely hiking trails around the ponds that lead you through an abundance of natural sites.
